Chancellor Masrour Barzani received today Australia’s Deputy Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Tim Stapleton, to discuss progress in the campaign against ISIL, bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and Australia and recent regional political and military developments.

During the meeting, both officials reviewed bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Australia. They also discussed Australia’s contributions in the anti-ISIL campaign and further measures to support the Kurdistan Region in the fight against terror.
Mr. Stapleton expressed his country’s appreciation for the role of Peshmerga Forces in the fight against ISIL. He also called conveyed support for Erbil-Baghdad dialogue to resolve political differences through peaceful means.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to security cooperation to address threats against shared security interests, including addressing root causes of conflict in the Middle East to prevent vacuums and ungoverned space for extremists.
